Fairplex in Pomona, CaliforniaSaturday, June 15, 2013
The Alex Xydias Center for Automotive Arts (AXC) is a program of the “Learning Centers at the Fairplex”. AXC was created about 2 years ago in an old garage at the Fairplex. The objectives are to provide students with automotive skills through innovative training, and hands-on experience. Which develops a reason to stay in school, skills necessary for a sustainable career and the work ethic to succeed.
Nine students have successfully completed the 2-year program. 8 out of the 9 are now employeed in the auto industry. Seven are now being honored at their Class of 2013 Inaugural Graduation. The ceremony included an introduction by Jon Blickenstaff followed by founder Alex Xydias then two graduating students, Jacob Hesbol & Ausencio Reyes, spoke of their experiences, the graduation certificates were presented by Brian Suggs and Jon Blickenstaff. Doyle Gammel presented the individually engraved English pewter mugs from the L.A. Roadsters Club. Just as the ceremony was about to close graduating student Francisco “Javier” Medrano arrives. Noticeably dirty from his job, he was able to get away from work to attend graduation. Jon Blickenstaff closed the ceremony and invited everyone to have some cake.
