Woodward Dream Cruise August 17, 2013
Detroit, MichiganSaturday, August 17, 2013
The World’s Largest One Day Car Event. From Detroit through nine adjoining cities, this cruise will draw in over 40,000 cars and 1 million spectators. Curb side parking spaces will rent for upwards of $75 each and be hard to find at that. The magic of Woodward started in the 1940”s after WW II and stayed around until the mid-1970’s when government regulations finally choked the life out of high performance Detroit Muscle Cars. During those years, especially when the northern stretches of Woodward were the boonies, street racing grievances were settled then and there.
Today, the local municipalities have a choke hold on any attempts at shows of performance or speed with gut wrenching fines and even higher insurance points. It has become a spectator sport. So from my spectator perch at 13 mile and Woodward, I view the congestion, vendors and commercial exhibits. One of interest was the Silver Bullet street racer from the 1970’s with its four mufflers to attempt to dampen the exhaust noise, it really did not though, and it remained unbeaten in every race. Enjoy the pics!
