GoodGuys All-American Nationals Pt.1
The Big E, West Springfield, MaSaturday, June 14, 2014
I went to the GoodGuys All-American Nationals at The Big E Fairgrounds in West Springfield, Ma. on both Friday and Saturday; Friday was a disaster weatherwise as it rained all day, but I went anyhow to renew my GoodGuys membership and to check out the swap meet, car corral, indoor car show, model car show and the vendors. I still had a great day as I ran into a lot of the guys I hadn't seen for a long time, even years in some cases. I saw Bruce at the Model Car Show and Exhibit and met 3 great model builders, Frank, Dick & Jim. Their models were absolutely spectacluar. Frank had some that he built 45 years ago, but they looked like they were just finished. Dick had some super builds using parts from several different cars. Jim only started building 18 months ago and his builds were beautiful and he had about a dozen cars there. Any of their builds would be welcome additions to any collection... I saw Jimmy at the Wintek Fabrications booth and artist Scott Fisk showing his latest artwork. Bill and Linda Yorker's latest "ABSURD" car was in the indoor show, and to say it is spectacular is an understatement!!! It's the Chopped, channeled, sectioned and widened Model-A Coupe powered by a 1300 Horsepower blown Keith Black Hemi that I took a lot of pictures of. It's still easy to have a great time at a GoodGuys event even when God and Mother Nature try to spoil it!!! On Saturday my buddy Charlie picked me up at 7:15 AM so we be there when the gates opened; The weather turned out to be great, but the car count was down due to the rain on Friday and scattered rain in surrounding areas; Also with Father's Day on Sunday lots of guys had family commitments which kept them away. The rumor around the grounds was that the show would be held a week later next year, so Guys mark it on your calendars and let's make it a special East Coast Show next year with the biggest participation and spectator turnout ever so the show will continue to be held at this great location. Hey, I had heart surgery a month before the show and I was there taking pictures and preaching the benefits of both HOTRODHOTLINE and the GoodGuys Rod & Custom Association. Next year I want to see you there and come up and say Hi and I'll take pictures of your car to include in my event coverage here. Here were Lots of really nice cars there; How about a 383" Chevy powered Bug from Maine that even competed in the AutoCross; What about a Viper powered VW Karmen Ghia; I went crazy over the channeled '32 roadster powered by a Packard engine with dual quads. Gorgeous Street rods, muscle cars, antiques & classics; One was powered by a Bowing Turbine. Met up with fwllow Roving Reporter/Photographer Tom Poremba and we met up with "Samuel Adams" to cool off from the heat; Always great to spend time with him and we made plans to meet up at the Syracuse Nationals and the Adirondak Nationals later this season. I hope you all enjoy my pictures as much as I enjoy going to the shows, taking the pictures and sharing them with you. Keep on Rodding, Walt
