Bonneville 2014 with the Hot Iron Car Club

Hot rodder’s continue to blow me away with how generous and just downright COOL they can be. While attending the Viva Las Vegas car show this past spring I was approached by a member of the Hot Iron car club after he recognized a tattoo on my arm of a car his buddy built (how ironic). We hit it off, and after an hour of chatting he told me I should come on out to Bonneville for Speed Week with his car club. I had never had the privilege of visiting the birth place of hot rodding, so I took my new friend (Keven) up on his offer.
Keven and I kept in touch and 4 months later I was being picked up by the members of the Hot Iron club at the airport, and we were rolling towards the salt. I bounced around from club ride to club ride until finally being handed the keys to an amazing chopped 50 Merc for the final approach into sacred ground…how cool are these guys!!!?
Now, as some of you may know excessive rainfall ultimately caused the races to be canceled, but there was still a ton of fun to be had…plus the “lake” covering the would-be race surface made for some amazing photography. Check out the images to see all the action that still took place in around the city of Wendover, and on the salt…or what salt we could find.
A HUGE thanks to all the guys in the Hot Iron car club who bent over backwards to show this guy from the Mid-West an unforgettable time…these guys are the definition of grass roots hot rodders with 100% coolness running through their veins.
