Gilmore Museum

I first started coming to this facility about 25 years ago when it’s original claim to fame were the famous red barns. They were first purchased from farms, dismantled and transported to the museum grounds to be re-assembled. They, in themselves are works of art with some going back to the late 1880’s, and many having stairways from mansions incorporated in the barns. Now, along with the original barns the museum has been rapidly developing other buildings that represent period copies of Hudson, Ford, Lincoln and soon to open a Cadillac auto dealerships. The museum business is indeed serious but I could not overlook the VW Bug near the entryway. The first serious display was the Karl Benz automobile from 1886 and then followed the Lincolns, Duesenberg’s, Packard’s, Lincoln’s, Pierce-Arrows and every car of these periods that your could think of. An exhibit of period art in the American Legends of Hot Rods & Customs exhibit, By Tom Fritz. Then onto the famous recreation of a Shell Gas Station, which has been photographed thousands of times as a backdrop for cars going to museum events. Sit back, click on the grid and enjoy the pics!
