Coker Tires & Honest Charley Spring Cruise

Saturday, April 11, we (5 friends and I) went to the Coker Tires/Honest
Charlie Spring Cruise. The cars we traveled in on the 140 miles from Hoover,
AL to Chattanooga, TN were my 41 Ford convertible, two Olds 442 convertibles
(67 & 70), a 71 Chevy pickup and a 74 Blazer. The trip was great and
the weather was perfect at about 77 degrees the entire day. We all enjoyed
ourselves and saw many great cars. I was only able to take about 90 pictures
as my memory card became full. I wanted to take more of the 450-500 cars
that were in attendance. As I stated everything about the day was perfect
until we started for home. While getting on the interstate in Chattanooga
the left rear air shock bottom mounting bolt broke. Luck was with me as I
was able to get the car towed to Honest Charlie's Garage. Those traveling
with me went on home as I was in good hands at the garage. Thanks to a good
friend, Larry Griffey of Griffey's Hot Rods & Restoration in Knoxville, TN
who was down for the day getting another friend Steve of Honest Charlie's
Speed Shop to get the ball rolling to repair the car. Once the car was in
Honest Charlie's Garage a new friend, Hal, began to work on the car.
Together Hal and Larry came up with an idea to make a new bolt.
Hal did a terrific job of making the part that was needed and repairing the
car. After their hard work and very grateful help I was able to make it home
safely that night. A huge shout out and THANK YOU goes to Hal for staying
late on a Saturday when he did not have to. There is one other person that
made the work and hours go by nicely and that is Miss Riley (Larry and
Robbie Griffey's 6-year-old granddaughter). She made the work more pleasant
for everyone.
