Woodward Cruise
Oak Park, MISaturday, August 15, 2015

The 21st annual Woodward Dream Cruise is officially history, although cruising Woodward is a summer long personal event. 26 miles in length thru 13 suburbs and past an estimated 1.5 million spectators who in turn are watching an expected 40,000 cars. This is officially known as the World’s Largest One Day Automotive Event. At the Dodge/Chrysler display area you could enjoy a brief but very fast ride in either a Hell Cat of Charger or just enjoy viewing the MOPARS that were on display. While at the epicenter of the cruise, 13 Mile and Woodward Ave., I had the opportunity to view many cars that were on display along the streets and in parks, as well as cruising the street. All of the major manufactures had large displays of their performance oriented cars. I also had the opportunity to actually view a tri-quad carburetor set-up on a beautiful race car. Yes, 3 Carter AFB’s on a very long manifold.
The Woodward Dream Cruise is also one of the world’s largest crowd control training events, drawing police from across the world for an opportunity to observe and practice in the handling of the crowds of people. It is a work of art to see the cruise shut down at closing time. Obviously, the strong presence of police and the enforcement of traffic laws are not welcome by all, especially one idiot in a beautifully restored GTO convertible, which did not have its original 389 tri-power, but something far bigger. Coming to a complete stop, he proceeded to do an absolutely beautiful 2 car long burnout. Unfortunately, it was viewed by 2 police officers who promptly pulled the offender over after a brief pursuit. To add insult to injury, the police officers were on bicycle patrol. Enjoy the pics!
