Orchard Beach Car Show
Bronx, NYSunday, September 20, 2015
Unlike last year, there wasn't a rain out, and so I made it to the Orchard Beach Show, which has been held every year since 2001, as a benefit to the NYPD 'Widows and Orphans Fund' and other First Responders who were affected by 9-11. The show was tremendous, and the folks that run this event, have a monumental task to accomplish each year, in terms of putting this event together. There is a special section to the Show, which as always, had a number of Movie Cars, such as the Batman cars from the television series, and the movies, and a General Lee. There were displays by local Car Dealers, a grouping of antique NYPD Squad Cars, and other department vehicles, two antique Fire Trucks, plus a display of heavy duty Tow Trucks from one of the Show's major sponsors. The show field while reasonably full by around 10:00 A.M., was a bit smaller than it has been in previous years, possibly due to higher Bridge Tolls discouraging a number of the New Jersey crowd from attending, and a higher Gate Fee for participant vehicles. Despite the smaller turnout, down by a 1/3, there were still a LOT of nice vehicles to see, even a few pre-war Model A Fords. In addition to the Show Field, and the Special Section for the celebrity vehicles, there was also a couple of Bands entertaining the crowd, though the Kiss cover Band, was not quite as good as this writer would have liked it to be, and the one Comic, well, he F- Bombed himself right off stage, in one heck of a hurry. Otherwise, the entertainment was good, and again, even a smaller Show Field, gave spectators and participants alike PLENTY to see. I hope that with finances, and weather permitting, I can attend this Show again in 2016, and hopefully more participants will turn out for this Show, and its worthy cause.
