Ponies At the Pike
Long Beach, CASunday, September 27, 2015
On Sunday, September 27, 2015 the 19th Annual “Ponies At The Pike” car show returned to Long Beach, Ca. The show is presented by the Beach Cities Mustang Club and was one of the best organized car shows I’ve attended. With 400+ cars (Mustangs and other Ford products) needing to get parked I was amazed at the efficiency of the volunteer staff; people were directed to their assigned parking spot and were parked within 5 minutes! All cars for each class were parked together, in numerical order, making it very easy when it came to doing the judging (peoples’ choice), and 250+ trophies were awarded; they also had raffles and auctions.
As for the venue itself, I don’t think anyone could ask for a nicer place to spend the day then Shoreline Park; all vehicles (except day of show registrations) were parked on grass. On one side of the park was the bay and Shoreline Village; on the other side of the park was the ocean and the Queen Mary as a backdrop. What could be nicer?
On hand was Steve Saleen, and he spent a good amount of time autographing free posters.
There were lots of vendors with car related products as well as food vendors; California Pizza Kitchen brought in their kitchen trailer and made piping hot pizza to order (they also had salads and other choices as well).
The public certainly enjoyed the show and were still coming in as the show was winding down; if they parked in the nearby Pike garage they were given a validation for 90 minutes of free parking!
I’m already looking forward to the 20th Annual “Ponies At The Pike” in 2016; for more information go to www.PoniesAtThePike.com
