State Street Nationals
Santa Barbara, CASunday, May 15, 2016
Santa Barbara, California came alive to the sights and sounds of the 3rd Annual State Street Nationals on Sunday, May 15, 2016. All pre-registered vehicles were judged in one of eighteen categories; for those who didn’t want to have their vehicle judged, and for those who registered on the day of the show, a nineteenth category, “display only” was available.
State Street was packed with 305 pre-registered classic cars, hotrods and muscle cars as well as approximately 45 day-of-show entries.
The State Street Nationals covered over ten blocks (approximately one mile). There’s other things about this show that I really I wish other shows would adopt. Let’s start with live music, but not just in one location, but multiple locations throughout the show; and these bands, each and every one, were really good. Then there are the parking arrangements; the organizers leave lots of room between vehicles, making it easy for everyone (including photographers) to see each and every vehicle. Next is the use of assigned spaces; no need to get up at the crack of dark when you know your parking space is waiting for you; just be there by 9 a.m. Finally there’s the location, State Street in Santa Barbara; that’s the main drag, that’s prime real estate, and it’s the perfect setting for a car show. While I can’t claim that the organizers have anything to with the weather, it seems it’s always perfect for the show!
Mark your calendar now for next years’ show, May 14, 2017.......see you there!
