On Oct. 8, "Bad Bird” and I flew south to Huntington Beach for the 1st Annual Huntington Beach Main Street Cars & Cruise Show, hosted by the HB Car Club.

When a car show is a “1st Annual” you just never know what to expect; will it be well organized or chaotic, will there be more than a few cars, will the parking allow for sufficient space between the show cars, will it be worth it, etc. I’ve attended well-established car shows that weren’t nearly as well executed as this car show.  Easy to follow directions to check-in point... check; pre-assigned parking space so there’s no issues with finding a place to park... check; helpful people to get you to your pre-assigned parking space... check. I could continue as there’s a long list of things that go into making a great car show, so I’ll just sum it up by saying this one (IMHO) had check marks next to all of them.

During the car show there was live music from three different groups, and all of them were really good! There were plenty of vendors and retail booths of all types, a 50’s and 60’s dress competition, and a ton of food places to choose from; it goes without saying that having a car show at the beach is always a big bonus.

In addition to all this, after the show concluded there was an organized cruise down Pacific Coast Highway to Newport Beach and back, dedicated to the men and women who protect and serve.

This was a charity car show with the proceeds going to Teen Challenge.

I’m adding this one to my car show schedule for next year... you should too!
