Petersen Auto Museum
Los Angeles, CAFriday, January 27, 2017
Well, my first event coverage of the year has started off with a bang. This is the first stop on an extended, multi-state vacation and I promise a lot more coverage from this trip. The new Petersen Auto Museum has recently re-opened after a two year closing for extensive remodeling, both inside and outside. The ultra-modern exterior is controversial architecture, while the interior presents the car displays as pieces of art. They have re-created a car museum as an art museum. The artistry is exceptional, from the displays to the gourmet restaurant to the gift shop. If you visit the lower level vault tour you will not be disappointed, but no photography was allowed of the about 200 cars that are stored there. These cars will either be displayed upstairs, or sent to other venues to await some form of restoration. Some of the cars there are in “barn find” condition, but complete; the question raised is whether it would be prudent to restore the cars, as they might not be worth any more after a million dollar restoration than they are now in their present condition. Enjoy the pics!
