Cruisin Ocean City, Day 2
Ocean City, MDFriday, May 19, 2017
Day two at Cruisin Ocean City opened to August-like humidity and oppressive temperatures, but despite the inhospitable weather, slowly but surely, the Convention Center Show filled up.
Action on the streets was fairly robust as well, although while the Convention Center Show did fill up toward noon time, by 2:00 P.M. it was emptying out rapidly, and even the cruising scene wasn’t as populated as it has been in years past. The most likely suspects for both the Convention Center Show taking so long to fill, and then petering out much earlier than last year, and the street cruising scene not being as active as it was in years past, would be the August-like ‘dog days of summer’ type weather, and in the case of the street cruising scene, the heavy Police presence possibly factoring in with respect to the lower participation levels in 2017, with the August-like weather possibly being a significant factor in dampening the turnout for the cruising scene.
Friday night saw a heavier turnout for the street cruising part of the Cruisin Ocean City event, with an equally large Police presence, which didn’t seem to do much in the way of discouraging full-on stage 1 race track burnouts from happening. Unfortunately for one young man, the heavy Police presence also didn’t save him from the tragic results of his drunken behavior, coupled with the poor judgement of an equally drunk driver.
