Hershey Pennsylvania Antique Automobile Club of America Fall Meet
Hershey, PASaturday, October 7, 2017
After a two year hiatus, we once again made it to the Hershey Pennsylvania Fall Meet of the Antique Auto Club of America (A.A.C.A.).
The trip is a long one for us - at least 3 hours each way of travel time - but with a certain bit of help, as in my son driving, we made it there.
If one hasn’t been to the Fall Meet, and can possibly make it, I would recommend doing so. One of the things you will see is a wide range of vehicles, some makes and models from as early as the late 19th century, and others from the turn of the 20th century. Among those vehicles one may see are long gone, often forgotten brands of the hundreds of vehicle manufacturers that were part of the early American automotive landscape, such as Havers, Mercer, Lozier, Keller, and many others no longer in existence.
One will also see a larger, albeit not as large as it once was, variety of pre-WWII cars, which cannot often be found at local car shows anymore. With the addition of the H.P.O.F. (Historic Preservation of Original Features) class, one can also see many vehicles in exactly the way they looked when they not only had just left the factory, but were in daily use. There is also a classification called “Driver Participation” for vehicles that are not original, but also not necessarily meticulously restored to factory original appearance and function; while NOT officially looked down upon, unofficially one can frequently hear that class referred to as the “Leper Colony," and its location down by the “Sewer Treatment Plant,” spoken of in a tone of voice intimating it being apropos to the vehicles found in that grouping.
Overall though, Hershey is an experience, an education and fun, with the added bonus of Chocolate World being nearby; so, as I mentioned earlier, worth the trip if one can make it there.
