10th Annual Veterans Memorial Car, Truck & Bike Show
Wantage, NJSunday, October 15, 2017
This show was originally scheduled for October 8th, but the skies had opened and the show was postponed until October 15th. Well, this day was pretty poor also. There had been a forecast of clearing early but that turned out not to be totally true. A mist hung in the air and there were several light rainfalls – but there still was a very active turn-out.
As far as locations are concerned, this show took place in the Woodbourne Veterans Memorial Park, and it is a fine venue for a car show. I got there around 9:15am and visited with several of the exhibitors. Even though the day was depressing, spirits were high and pleasant conversations were in order.
Cars began to arrive in good number around 10:30am. As I walked around the area, I talked at length with several exhibitors. Something that caught my eye was the headlight treatment on a light green Street Rod. The lower beams are incorporated in this set, but an option without lower beams can be purchased for a considerably lower price. The owner described some of the problems installing the lights... but they were quite impressive.
Another fellow came in on a ‘stretch’ trike with a great paint job, reminiscent of the '50s. There were several tricks in the paint job - lace treatment, fades, color bursts etc. One item of interest was the instrument panel. It was, due to space limitations, quite small, but it was fully digital and gave the driver all the information he could want.
I also noted that the red ‘61 Corvette had the power top option – according to the owner, there were only 108 produced with that option.
All in all, the show went well in spite of the weather. The main show area was filled quickly and another area just happened to be available for the overflow.
The 2017 show proceeds will be donated to the Welcome Home Vets Fund of New Jersey, Inc. Food & cold refreshments were available all day, plus live music, door prizes, 50/50 and tricky tray. Trophies were awarded in multiple classes for cars, motorcycles & trucks.
