As is usually the case, one must get to this Cruise Night EARLY to secure a good spot on the Main road through town (Rt 28), where this Cruise Night takes place every Friday, from 5:00 p.m., to 9:00 p.m. I myself, arrived around 2:30 p.m., and got a spot right in the heart of the downtown district, and by 5:00 p.m., that late arrivals were circling the Block numerous times over, waiting for someone to leave. The early birds though, are advised to feed the Parking Meters, as the parking rules regarding paying, are not suspended officially, until after the designated 5:00 p.m. start time of the Cruise Night. The practice of parking in the white stripped zones is also frowned upon, prior to the official Start Time for the Cruise Night.
The DJ these days is “Stick Shift Eddie”, who is set up by a Church near the end of the downtown district, as one heads out of town on Rt 28 West.
The June 8th event drew somewhere around 200 vehicles, spanning a distance of at least a mile, from the Courthouse at the eastern edge of the downtown, past the earlier referenced Church at the western end of town. There was a large, and steady crowd of spectators viewing the vehicles on display, right up until the end of the event at 9:00 p.m., and the restaurants offering both take out, and eat in options, drew the bulk of the crowd, when it came to Dinner options.
One other item of interest was at just around the Start Time for the Cruise Night, the "Torch Run" for the "Special Olympics", with runners from Law Enforcement around the area participating as the Runners, came through Somerville, so Cruise Night participants and spectators got a little extra treat as part of the night's event.
