Matamoras Cruise-in
Matamoras, NYTuesday, June 12, 2018
Cruise-In the Port has changed its location. Instead of the local streets in Port Jervis, NY, the event now has found a home at the Airport Park in Matamoras, NY. It remained to be seen how the property will be used for this event – but there is a lot of area.
So today, after several rain-outs, was the second event at this new location. And what a difference there was.
Again we cruised to Airport Park in a couple of Corvettes and a Pontiac sedan. It seemed that the traffic into the park was a little less than expected. That was possibly due to the guys realizing what had gone on at the opening day and wanting to avoid the confusion. This day apparently was a lot better organized. Existing parking spaces were now available for use and traffic was directed considerably better. We were able to find spaces with no problem, even after having arrived a little later than planned. The turn-out was much better than the first event and the area was full of some fine vehicles.
The problems from the first event concerning the parking by the ball field while games were going on was eliminated by changing the lanes where the show cars would hang out.
All in all, the evening was a blast. We ran into several friends, both new and old. We re-hashed the goings on of the past few weeks and arranged for a few more contacts, a few more potential customers for the Early Vette Shop plus arrangements for up-coming events with some of the contestants. Hopefully now attendance at this Cruise-in will continue to be one of the area highlights.
But one glaring problem will continue to exist. Exiting the site will be a problem. All the roads from Airport Park lead to Rt 6 and it is not controlled by a traffic light anywhere on that section of road. Add to that, traffic flows freely on Rt 6 so entering that road will always be time consuming for the time being.
