The Texas Hoedown
New Caney, TXSaturday, March 23, 2019
When the sun is out the fun is out, and the fun this time is taking us to New Caney, Texas for the 11th Annual Texas Hoedown. The Hoedown is a pre-’72 car event that features lots of customs, traditional hot rods, bombs, street rods and so much more.
The show quickly begins with the roar of mini bikes parading through the event. This is a sure sign the mini bike races are about to commence. The Texas Outlaw Mini Bikes (TOMB), are the folks who host these races and they are all about anything and everything related to the mini bike culture. The down and dirty side by side action of mini bike races have became a huge hit at this event.
The show grounds are packed with vintage tin in various makes and models. The traditional hot rods cover a period of time forgotten. The cool customs pop out like shiny switchblade knives. The bombs and lowriders exhibit a style and craftsmanship all their own. Mixed with some muscle cars, dragsters and grassroots street rods, there is certainly something there for everyone.
Another action filled part of The Texas Hoedown is roller derby. The Missfits roller derby team is the host and brings on the pain in a full contact assault against their opponents during the flat track bouts. This location is home turf for these ladies and they have bouts here on a regular basis.
The big rockabilly beat was from musical guest The Octanes from Austin, Texas and they shared the stage with Reno Divorce, who hails from the mile high city of Denver, Colorado. They bring a honky tonk punk rock sound that makes you want to get up and move. The pinup contest always draws a crowd, but this year also included the Swimsuit USA finale, and all eyes were on the stage.
The Texas Hoedown is a must-attend event for Texans. The show is well organized and the Hellions Car Club was a gracious host. This show only gets bigger and better every year and should be on your must-attend list too.
