SPRING ENGLISHTOWN-RACEWAY PARK CAR SHOW & SWAP MEET
Old Bridge, NJSaturday, April 13, 2019
And so, I made it to what is for me, my Season Opener of the “Car Show” season, the Englishtown/Raceway Park Spring Car Show and Swap Meet. I didn’t get to the Show this year until almost 1:00 p.m., thanks to the threatening weather, that didn’t really break until nearly 11:00 a.m. When I arrived at the Show, I was pleasantly surprised at the turnout, given the miserable state of the weather earlier on April 13, 2019. While not the usual Saturday turnout, as many may just bagged it, rather take chances, the Show participants occupied most of the Track from the Starting Line, up to what used to be mid Track.
I really didn’t get a chance to peruse the Swap Meet, which many deride as mostly Junk, but I did meet at least one fellow who scored a rebuildable Chevrolet Big Block engine Block, for what he felt was a fair price, and my own Son told me he’d found good Doors for his Truck, at a reasonable price as well. Now I’ll be the first to say I’ve described the Swap Meet anymore in less than glowing terms, but I’ll also wager some of more vociferous critics, bot their last load of parts for their project vehicle, via the same medium on which you are reading these words, and seeing the Car show photos on.
To those who also bemoan the fact that now both Saturday and Sunday are open to all comers, let just say this, the old-timers, with their 1900-60’s vehicles, have been leaving this world in growing numbers over the years, and if a profit making event is to survive, change, loved or hated, is inevitable. I miss seeing the Pre-War vehicles I used to see, the mostly 25 year old and older vehicles I saw years ago, but their owners in most instances, much like the presence of those vehicles at the Englishtown/Raceway Park Car Show, are decreasing in number as the years roll on.
