Ocean City Maryland Cruisin Ocean City Day Two
Ocean City, MDFriday, May 17, 2019
Day two of our Ocean City Maryland adventure started off with the Boardwalk Parade, where I think there were literally dozens of photos were taken of my 1976 Trans Am as we cruised on up the Boardwalk to the Inlet Car Show.
Once parked at the Show, I made my rounds, photographing a variety of vehicles, throwing in some people shots from the Boardwalk, and then going back to more Show Field photos.
I left the Inlet Show around 3:30 p.m., made a call, and found out a portion of our troop had headed out to the U.S. 13 Dragway in nearby Delaware. After a brief conversation, I decided to head out on the 20-mile run to the Dragway, and entered their Car Show, though for $10.00, as a registered Ocean City Car Show participant, I could have run my car on the Track. Since I was 225 miles from home, and not able to risk the possibility of something breaking on the Track, I chose to just Show my Car, which was free, again because I was registered to show in the Cruisin Ocean City Maryland event.
What I did do, was ride along with my Son in his car, on the Track. Yes, they allowed passengers on the Dragstrip. My Son cautioned me the launch would be violent, and I responded, I know, years ago I was the one driving. My only error was not bracing properly while shooting Video from the Passenger’s seat on the first run, so the start of that Video will include a view of the ceiling inside the car.
Overall the participation at the U.S. 13 Dragway Car Show was light, more than likely due to the 20 mile one way trip to get to the Track, because the folks at the Dragway, certainly made it attractive to come for the Cruisin Ocean City Car Show participants with their free entry offer, and $10.00 racing pass fee for those who wanted to partake of that part of the event at the Dragway.
We headed back to Ocean City around 7:00 p.m., getting back into town just as nightfall came. I headed up to the Wawa Cruise on the Coastal Highway, which while well attended, thanks to the constant Police presence, who shooed away anyone near the Gas Pumps, who wasn’t getting gasoline for their vehicle, and a general move it on approach to all but a limited area, was nowhere near the epic proportions of years past. I of course pulled right up to the Gas Pumps, and fueled my Trans Am, then parked by the next-door CVS Pharmacy (closed by then), and toured, photographed, and looked around. I spent a short time trying to catch any Hotrods, and other Show Vehicles cruising the Coastal Highway, but there too, the pickins were slim, compared to years past.
Around 9:30 p.m. I went into Wawa, picked up a Sub, some chips, and Soda, and then headed back to our Apartment at the Beach Plaza Hotel on Baltimore Ave and 13th Street.
