Rain in May in California…?  Yes, it does happen, with two back to back weekends of shows having to deal with it!

The West Coast Kustoms made on the spot changes, moving the awards up a day, and offering diehard spectators free admission on Sunday, with more than a few of the many entries still on the grounds for them to enjoy…a fun weekend for all.

Now as with many shows this year for which the entries have been down, so it was this year with the 38th Annual Cruisin’ Nationals…not by many, as there were hundreds of mild to wild customs displayed side by side with restored cars from the ‘40’s – 50’s, as well as low-riding tail draggers…a full day needed to view them all.  The level of the entries was as high as ever, as the top cars show up for this once a year gathering, with many of the WCK Hall of Fame members on hand for meet n’ greets, autographs or just plain conversin’…

One of this year’s Hall of Fame inductees was Rik Hoving, founder of the Custom Car Chronicle, an online Custom Car magazine with more than 100,000 photographs and related material.

Jay Ward, while not a household name, is through his work known to all as the guardian of all things Cars; in other words, anything related to Cars by Pixar.  Jay has also done editorial work for Hop Up Magazine, as well as Jalopy Journal; he has co-founded shows and currently produces the annual Pixar Motorama.

The final inductee this year needs no introduction, as his moniker is as well known as the product he is in charge of—Hot Wheels!  Larry Wood has been a hot rodder his entire life, building many cars of his own over the years…full sized, not 1/64!  Larry, an Art Center graduate’s career with Mattel began in 1969, bringing a new direction, from scaled down versions of production cars to the wildly collected cars now available…
