61st Annual Houston AutoRama

Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for good health, friends and family. It also is the start of the indoor car show season which begins in Houston, Texas on Thanksgiving Day. The sights and sounds of an indoor auto event are different and memorable for all of those who attend.
The 61st Annual Houston AutoRama sponsored by O’Reilly Auto Parts ran November 25 -28, 2021 and was held at the George R. Brown Convention Center. This four day event is packed with featured attractions, celebrity guests and of course lots of cool hot rods, customs, lowriders, trucks and motorcycles. Many different awards are achievable including the special recognition awards presented at each show; these are Steele Rubber’s Master Builders Award, ISCA’s (International Show Car Association) Achievement and Rising Star Awards and Championship Auto Shows CASI Cup and many others.
The show has a great mix of vehicles and consists of championship competitors and local level competitors all hoping to be the best in their class. Spectators stroll the aisles gazing into the glass like paint jobs and marveling at the detailed engine compartments. The attention to detail, ingenuity and fabrication stands out. This is certainly clear in Larry and Kathy Birdsong’s 1926 Model T truck from Prescott Valley, AZ, the engineering is this beautiful hot rod was mind blowing.
The event had a small swap meet and toy fair with some musical entertainment during the show each day as well as famed car designer and builder Chip Foose and wrestler “Sting” on hand to sign autographs and take pictures with fans.
The Houston AutoRama is a family affair with something for everyone and for folks here in Texas it is a family tradition that will continue for years to come. If you find yourself in Houston, Texas during Thanksgiving be sure to check it out.
