Barnum Festival "The Greatest Car Show on Earth"
Hillcrest Middle School, Trumbull, CTSunday, June 24, 2012
The Barnum Festival in Bridgeport, Connecticut and the surrounding region was founded in 1948 to honor the memory of Bridgeport’s most famous resident, entertainer P.T. Barnum, founder of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Now celebrating its 64th year, the Barnum Festival is underway from mid-May to July 4th and features a variety of community events that have a common theme, built around the Barnum circus showman tradition. The annual car show is billed by the Festival as “The Greatest Car Show On Earth”. That falls right in line with P.T. Barnum’s reputation for a bit of exaggeration now and then, but it was a very good show on a great Sunday, with more than 500 show cars in attendance. This year’s Ringmaster gave a welcoming speech, and a Color Guard honored our armed forces. In addition to the car show, the Barnum Festival features musical events, parades, and a fireworks display on scheduled dates from May to July.
