Edison Light Cruisers Home Depot Cruise Night for June 28, 2012
Home Depot in Edison NJThursday, June 28, 2012
What started out as an ordinary run to a local Cruise Night, certainly turned into a lot more than I bargained for. I had decided that I would take my 1982 Ford Fairmont Futura to the Cruise Night run by the Edison Light Cruisers, at the local Home Depot on Rt 1 South in Edison NJ. The venture started off with the usual task of loading up the car with my camera equipment, borrowing a couple of chairs from one of my other cars, and loading some Show Flyers in the car, for some events I am running. Now mind you, the Fairmont isn’t a restored classic, in fact it has more than its share of battle scars, but it is registered as a “Historic Vehicle”, and is not to be used for other than to and from Shows, Cruise Nights, and Parades. So, load up the car, and off I went to the Cruise Night. I got about a mile from home, and the car stumbled and died. Luckily I was able to pull off the road, and then call my Son. I then checked out the car, while waiting for my Son to arrive with his truck, and a Tow Dolly. My summation of the problem, a bad Fuel Pump. So, another phone call to a local NAPA Store, who informed me that they had the Pump in stock, followed by instructing my Son upon his arrival, to head over to the store and pick up the new Pump. All in all, I spent about 1-1/2 hours on the side of the road, before getting and installing the new Pump, only to go about 50 feet, and have the car die again. This time I pulled the hose off the Fuel Filter on the inlet side of the Pump, and checked it for obstructions. I found what appeared to be a blockage, which I then cleared. The car restarted, and I made it to the Cruise Night.
The Cruise Night was well attended, with a few new vehicles on display I hadn’t seen at this event before, like a nice maroon mid sixties Lincoln suicide door Convertible, a Volkswagen “Thing”, and a nicely done Suzuki Samari, among the many nice vehicles at tonight’s Cruise Night. As always DJ Jukebox Jimmy spun a nice variety of tunes, and a Fan Belt Toss added to the festivities.
Though the evening started out on a sour note, it ended uneventfully, and the Fairmont is back home, safe and sound.
