Studebaker Drivers Club Southwest Zone Meet
Salt Lake City, UtahFriday, September 21, 2012
We planned a trip in mid September to take in the Southwest Zone Meet in Salt Lake City as my wife was retiring and didn’t need to worry about the rushing back to work thing. This was to be a week on the road with our 1966 Studebaker Daytona sedan. We drove 2371 miles without issue and enjoyed some new roads and attractions we had not seen before, the highlight a stop at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Much of the scenery along the way was hidden by smoke haze from the forest fires burning in the west. Virtually every stop we made was punctuated by “cool car !, neat Studebaker!” comments from those we met along the route through six states. In lonely Leadore, Idaho on highway 28, after a 7000 ft. pass, we stopped and had a great lunch, seemingly in the middle of nowhere.
Road trips can be a blast. We are looking forward to the next adventure. Driving an old car completes the process. Don’t forget the preventive maintenance!
