A.A.C.A Eastern Division National Fall Meet
Hershey Park, Hershey, PASaturday, October 13, 2012
If you haven’t ever been to the A.A.C.A. Hershey Fall Meet, you’ve missed one heck of an event. Unlike the local Car Show Circuit, at Hershey, one will see brands of cars and trucks, they may have never heard of, and models of vehicles, such as trucks, by manufacturers one might not have realized ever made them. There are unrestored originals, and meticulously restored vehicles for one’s viewing pleasure, covering a fairly large Show Field. If you want to show a vehicle at the Hershey Pa Show, one has to be a Member of the Antique Automobile Club of America (A.A.C.A.), but as far as I know, anyone can come and view the hundreds of wonderful, interesting, and sometimes, unique vehicles on the Show Field.
If you can make it out to the Hershey Show on Thursday-Friday, there is an enormous Swap Meet, where there are literally thousands of Parts Vendors to see. One other recommended stop, is a visit to the A.A.C.A. Museum, which one passes on their way back to Rt 81. The Museum is fairly new, and admission is free for A.A.C.A. Members, and $10.00 for non-members. There are three floors of displays, the first two comprised of cars, trucks, and motorcycles, and the third, unusual and rare vehicle Hood Ornaments. Much like the Hershey Fall Meet, the Museum has something for just about everyone, and many rare vehicles on display for one’s viewing pleasure.
The reason we trekked out to the Hershey Pa Fall Meet, was due to a friend’s (Mike Riebe) insistence that my Son (Martin), enter our 1972 Plymouth Satellite Regent Wagon in the H.P.O.F. (Historic Preservation of Original Features) class. The time and effort my Son put into prepping the car, and to get to the Show, paid off, as the car won an H.P.O.F. award.
It was a long day, a long trip, but one that we will all remember for years to come.
