THE DAY OF THE DRAGS #12
Little River Dragway, Temple, TexasFriday, October 5, 2012
Covering two or more events on the same day is a regular occurrence for me down here in the Houston area as long as they’re within a 100 mile radius. Any further and I have to plan accordingly. Recently my brother and I left Houston at 2 am heading toward the Goodguys Lone Star Nationals at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth. After gas and breakfast, that put us at the show at 7 am. After taking over 600 pictures between us, we headed south 160 miles to Temple at 12 noon to catch some of the nostalgic drag racing action at Little River Dragway’s “Day of the Drags”. Busy day and a lot of “road” time but for me it’s well worth it. I’ve said it many times in my personal website…..”I love nostalgic drag racing” but until this year, nostalgic drag racing events in Texas were few and far between. Luckily the Kontinentals Car Club out of Austin who are most known for their “Lone Star Round-Up” traditional rodding event in Austin have teamed up with Little River Dragway 65 miles north in Temple for a couple of major nostalgic drag racing events. Earlier in the year the newly named for next year “Texas Hot Rod Reunion” took place and a few months later in October was their “Day of the Drags” event. I’ve been doing this for almost 40 years and I’ve always known the track in Temple as Temple Dragway. Not sure when the name change took place but it’s going to be a regular destination for me from now on. Again their 2nd Annual “Texas Hot Rod Reunion” takes place April 26-27, 2013. As far as their 2012 “Days of the Drags”, check the images below.
