2013 New Years Day Cruise
Jan 1,’13
Story an Photographs by Roger Rohrdanz
The days preceding the 2013 New Years Day Garage Tour had been rainy and cold. As usual, the first day of the new year brought no rain, but there were gray skies and a very cold morning. It just happened that the first stop on the tour was also gray. The Battleship USS Iowa docked at the Navy pier near Fisherman’s Warf in San Pedro. Along the way we stopped at Elwood’s Garage, which had some very cool Hotwheels “stuff” and a recently restored ’51 Spartan Mansion trailer and georgous ’36 Ford COE hauler. We then drove to Jerry Ski’s Diner & Garage. Completed just 3 weeks ago, this museum quality “man-cave” had 25+ vintage cars, garage memorabilia, neon signs, a TV lounge, and a full sized diner! Then we headed to Kenny Tucker’s “Garage of Goodies”. Oh my gosh, so many porcelain and neon signs. There was an amazing collection of gas station equipment, unique vehicles, and old race cars housed in 3 big garages in the backyard!! The next stop was a new, classic used car dealership called “Back in the Day”. Check it out online at www.backinthedayclassics.com Next was Pat Aust’s garage full of his cool hot rods.
Now it’s back on the highway towards lunch. Thanks to these garage owners for opening up for us on New Years Day!!
Thanks for the Show!
