Gene is a master of his craft and famous for his custom cars and hotrods. A recipient of the 2001 NHRA Lifetime Achievement Award, he has over 60 years experience in custom hotrod fabrication, land speed and oval track racing.

Winfield is one of the key players who started the customizing craze that first swept through California and then throughout the nation in the '50s and '60s.

Gene's cars have appeared in more than 25 motion pictures including "Robocop", "Blade Runner", "The Last Starfighter", "Back To The Future II" and the 1972 Woody Allen movie "Sleeper".  His dream cars have been seen in over 50 television commercials and shows including "Batman", "Mission Impossible", "The Man from U.N.C.L.E", and the original "Star Trek".

Winfield’s customs earned top awards at car shows throughout the country.  His creations have been covered in just about every car magazine in the world.

His first best known custom, the "Jade Idol", was a '56 Mercury. The car established Winfield at the leading edge of auto exotica.  This project took two years to build and walked away with top sweepstakes awards at national car shows for the next several years.
