Gene Winfield and the beautiful custom trophy he will present at the 2011 Syracuse Nationals.

One participant of the 2011 Syracuse Nationals will be the recipient of the 2nd Annual Winfield Award.   The winner will be selected by famous car customizer and builder Gene Winfield.

All vehicles 1937 or newer which have been either chopped, channeled or sectioned will be eligible for the award. Entrants for the award will be required to submit photos of the vehicle and a complete list of modifications prior to May 1, 2011, mail entries to Right Coast Association, PO Box 3146, Syracuse, NY, 13220.

Gene will pick twelve vehicles from the entries which will be displayed indoors at the Syracuse Nationals, July 15-17, 2011.

 Friday evening, July 15th during the sponsors reception Gene will announce the “Select Six” that will be in contention for the Winfield Award. Each of the six owners will receive a custom award, jacket and $500.

The Winfield Award winner will be announced Saturday evening July 16th, during the annual Syracuse Nationals dinner dance.

The winner will receive a beautiful one of a kind award, personalized jacket and $5,000.00 courtesy of Meguiar’s

Gene is a master of his craft and famous for his custom cars and hotrods. A recipient of the 2001 NHRA Lifetime Achievement Award, he has over 60 years experience in custom hotrod fabrication, land speed and oval track racing.

 Winfield is one of the key players who started the customizing craze that first swept through California and then throughout the nation in the '50s and '60s.

Gene's cars have appeared in more than 25 motion pictures including "Robocop", "Blade Runner", "The Last Starfighter", "Back To The Future II" and the 1972 Woody Allen movie "Sleeper".  His dream cars have been seen in over 50 television commercials and shows including "Batman", "Mission Impossible", "The Man from U.N.C.L.E", and the original "Star Trek".

 Winfield’s customs earned top awards at car shows throughout the country.  His creations have been covered in just about every car magazine in the world.

 His first best known custom, the "Jade Idol", was a '56 Mercury. The car established Winfield at the leading edge of auto exotica.  This project took two years to build and walked away with top sweepstakes awards at national car shows for the next several years.
