The 2015 NHRA Mellow Yello Drag Racing Series is coming down to the wire with the Countdown to the Championship in full swing. The Countdown kicked off at the Carolina Nationals at zMAX Dragway in Concord, NC this past weekend.
The Top Fuel class saw Antron Brown win his fifth Top Fuel race of the season and take the points lead after beating J.R. Todd in the finals. Close behind is Tony Schumacher, who is only 9 points down from the lead with five races to go. Brown beat Todd with a run of 3.832 seconds at 311.56 mph to Todd's 4.063 seconds at 286.32 mph.
Del Worsham came out on top in the Funny Car class, earning his first win of the season with elapsed times in the low 4-second range that couldn't be beaten. His runs were close calls, but he came out on top each time and jumped from fourth place to first place in the points, with Tommy Johnson just six points behind.
Erica Enders-Stevens defended her championship in the Pro Stock class, winning for the first time at zMAX Dragway and taking her seventh win of the 2015 season. She is the points leader for the Pro Stock class with an impressive 83 point lead over second place contender, Greg Anderson.
Andrew Hines took a similar approach to Enders in the Pro Stock Motorcycle class, definding his world championship title and winning this event for the third time with a run of 6.880 at 195.11 mph. This marked Hines' 40th career victory in the two-wheel category and strengthened his now 20 point lead over Eddie Krawiec.
