“PAYING TRIBUTE”
By Michael Riley
There’s just something cool about a hot rod, there’s something cool about a vintage bomber, but there is something especially cool when both hot rod and bomber pay tribute to our military veterans.
This isn’t an article about a hot rod build, nor is it an article about a vintage warbird; this is simply an opportunity to extend remembrance, honor and respect.
One could sit here and write half a book on the build up of RETRO POWER’s 1933 Chevy aptly named “Old Ironsides” as well as the accompanying B-25 Mitchell bomber, named the “Yellow Rose”. Instead, another course of action is deserved here, the kind in which one pays tribute for those who have lost their lives fighting for the freedom of our Country and for those who are fighting now, so that we can enjoy the benefits of being an American.
That is why “Old Ironsides” was built, as a veteran of the 1st Armored Division, it was a responsibility located deep down inside that drove this project, one that says, “I was there and know what it’s like, here’s to you, stay strong”. Care was taken to ensure that upon first sight, there is no denying the meaning behind this 1933 Chevy. From the “Canteen Green” paint, custom airbrushed Pin-up Girls and rivets, 30MM shift handle and American Flag themed interior, it is pure emotion in motion.
