Legislation (H.3140) has been introduced in the Massachusetts State Legislature which, if signed into law, will exempt older antique vehicles from the state's annual safety inspection requirement. The bill is scheduled for a hearing in the Joint Committee on Transportation on September 17 - next Tuesday.
H.3140 would exempt any antique vehicle 75 years old and older that is registered with antique or year of manufacture license plates, if owned by a member of a recognized antique car club, from the annual inspection requirement. The bill is meant to recognize that antique vehicles make up only a small percentage of Massachusetts vehicles and are almost always both well-maintained and infrequently operated.
