As some of you may remember, Hot Rod Hotline received a request from a daughter, Pam, whose father had been battling cancer for the fourth time this past October. She wanted to find him a special Christmas present that would bring back the spark in his eyes from his youth: a ride in his first car.
In 1953, Pam's father, Al, was in the service in Texas when he bought his first car, a 1951 Ford Business Coupe. Pam remembers her father telling her that the coupe didn't have a backset when he first bought it, so he put one in and drove it for nine years.
After long months of trying to find Al a ride in his first car, we were reached out to by one of our readers, Sally. Her grandson had a 1950 Ford Business Coupe and was located in the same area as Al, and Al's big ride was finally a reality. The families met and Al got a chance to look at the car and take a ride in it.
We thank Sally and her grandson for their generosity, as do Pam and Al. The hot rod community was able to come together and give Al what he really wanted and deserved, and that is a wonderful thing.
