TWO TOP THREE FINISHES IN THE STAR GRAND AMERICAN MODIFIED SERIES FOR JESSICA CLARK June 12, 2012
By noderel:

VENTURA, CA- 18 year-old Jessica Clark entered this past Saturday night at Stockton 99 Speedway as her second time out in the NASCAR Whelen All American Modifieds and showed progression. Clark started the 2012 season off with a few bugs that prevented her from racing the first few races of the year as she suffering motor issues. With a rebuilt Engine her first race went underway on May 26th. Clark new to the Modified cars took her first race easy as she wanted to get to know the new transition as well as getting the feel of her competitors style of racing. This past Saturday night Jessica was ready to race full force and she did just that.
Clark is running in both Modified divisions held at Stockton 99 Speedway, the NASCAR Whelen All American Modified presented by Star Racing Supply as well as the Star Grand American Modifieds. The Star GAM series is a series within a series program that allows older Modifieds to compete within the Whelen series and be competitive in the Star GAM series with its own points and payouts. Drivers who compete in the Star GAM series are entered in two separate points systems as well as payouts.
Clark qualified 14th in the Whelen division with a fast time of 14.856 seconds around the high bank 1/4 mile track. In the first 40 lap main event, Clark started 11th and on the start Clark suffered a few battle losses for position and wound up in the 13th on lap three. This didn't discourage Clark one bit as she kept her head down to make gains throughout the race. By lap seven, Clark was already in the 11th position ready to collect more positions. A lap eleven restart allowed Clark to jump to the seventh position ready to keep up with the pack. After a few position shuffles Clark was running consistent in the ninth position until the last few laps the division ran into a few caution flags which jeopardized her position. In the end, Clark finished a solid eighth place finish in the Whelen division but collected a second in the Star Grand American Modified series.
Jessica started eighth in the second main event in between her competitors Camera and Lyons. By lap two, Clark had picked off a position for seventh. A restart was on lap five and Clark fell back to eighth and ran steady. Clark ran a solid eighth place finish in the second Whelen division and collected a third in the Star Grand American Modified series.
"I think Jessica did an outstanding job in both races, she did a great job adapting to the car and getting the most out of it. I am also really looking forward to next weekend's race," stated Clark's crew chief Randy Chastain.
"Finishing second and third in the Star GAM series was exciting and gave me the confidence to be a tough competitor in the races to come. Star Racing Supply Modifieds are a blast to drive!" stated Jessica Clark.
Clark's next race is scheduled for June 16th at Stockton 99 Speedway for another round of Twin events.
