Mojave Mile Shootout from 2011.
Following the cancellation of the Bonneville Speed Week event on the Bonneville Salt Flats due to flooding, the Southern California Timing Association and the Bonneville Nationals Inc (BNi) rallied and was able to arrange for a replacement event at the Mojave Mile this weekend, August 8-9.
Initially exploring the idea of holding it at El Mirage, they discarded that idea since the lakebed is also closed due to rain. However, the airport runway in Mojave, CA has proved to be a welcome option to the many landspeed racers who have spent the year planning for the iconic event.
While undoubtedly a different experience than running on the salt flats, the Mojave Mile event is still a great chance for racers to set new records and times. The organization needed 130 participants to secure the location and filled the positions quickly.
We look forward to seeing the approach racers will take to this paved course, and we're glad that the SCTA was able to offer these racers a solution.
