Spurgin- Giovanine Roadster Hall of Fame Induction [Video]

Piecing together photographs and duplicating the Spurgin- Giovanine Roadster was something that Ernie Nagamatsu and his crew were extremely passionate about. The Spurgin and Giovanine families were finally able to relive the memories that they had of the car, or the memories that they had of simply seeing the car in old Hot Rod magazines.

"He would be honored, and he would be embarassed," says Spurgin's daughter in this video. The men didn't like attention, they just wanted to do their thing and go racing. And that's what they did.

The car has been restored to its original state, including the crooked buttons on the top. The crew that put this car together had a real passion for preserving its look and honoring the folks that made it all happen in the first place.

The original crew was Bob Rufi, Bob Giovanine, and Chuck Spurgin. They hit record speeds in the 1948 season with their first record being a two-way record at the start of the season at 113.950 mph. They only increased that record as the season went on, eventually making it up to 123.655 mph.

In 1949, the Roadster was a feature car at the Second Annual Hot Rod Exposition in Los Angeles with a special display. The restoration of this car brings rushes of emotion for the families of the crew members and they are all touched by the efforts.

The video reflects the emotional and touching moments for the Spurgin and Giovanine families
