I’m moving along with the build as fast as I can, and have set a completion date of January 2010 – maybe the Roadster Show?    I hope you have been following the Coupe build in Street Rod Builder (SRB) magazine – we’re up to Part 4, and Part 5 is scheduled to be a dual issue – September/October and will be out soon.   Here are some of the things completed so far:

The fender wells have been raised and flat paneled

All the old interior wood has been replaced with new wood from Ford Wood Art

I’ve ground the Chevy block smooth

and painted it the same Cherry Red that’s going to be used for the body color.

The three deuce carb setup from Automotion was finished to perfection - Cherry Red carb bodies, polished and chrome lines and linkage. Larry Fulton does an awesome job, and next to it the Joe Hunt ignition – just like my original roadster. A Lokar throttle cable will get things moving.

The knecht six-gauge Harper  panel, and Classic Instrument gauges will be used. A Ron Francis wiring kit will hook everything up.

For steering, I’m using the Borgeson billet box and raised it on the frame rail to get a more level drag link. As you can see it is a direct shot from the Flaiming River steering column and only one Borgeson vibration style universal joint was necessary.

Out in the trunk is a custom Rock Valley stainless steel fuel tank that they made to my specifications – a really nice piece, and The Polishing Shop is going to shine it up.

Here’s the custom spring shackle and bat wing that I machined from stainless steel.

The shock mount is part of the spring shackle mount – better ride and handling. The complete specs for these parts are featured in the May/June issue of SRB so you can use them.

Here, I’m getting ready to weld the bat wings to the stainless steel dropped Speedway axle and the radius rod end mount to the chassis.

Today, the Coupe is on its beautiful Billet Specialties Dragster style wheels and shod with Michelin Pilot Sport tires. The stainless steel brake lines have been perfectly bent up by Mark Bohlen at Bent Custom and Performance, and I just finished polishing them.

Also, the headers and exhaust is being worked on by David Diviak at Maxwell Industries, and then it will be back to Palmer’s Custom Paint & Body to get the finishing touch.

Be sure to get the full story in SRB. Until next up-date… in HRHL, Bill Neumann
